PR Lessons for Founders with Cam Doody

Cam Doody, co-founder of the moving company, Bellhop, and current VC extraordinaire, is a PR machine. (Just Google him to see what we mean.)

It could be argued that Feed the Narrative might not be a thing without Cam and his Bellhop cofounders, Matt Patterson and Stephen Vlahos. Fresh off their Series A fundraise at the dawn of the “sharing economy,” the Bellhop team brought David on board as a marketing generalist. Though he’d dabbled in PR previously — as is common among communications professionals — it was at Bellhop that Cam and Co. gave him the resources and time to refine his PR craft.

The results spoke for themselves. Over a two-year span, Bellhop’s dual-pronged PR strategy yielded on average a favorable media hit a workday somewhere in the United States, from local papers to the front page of the New York Times business section. Toss in a healthy helping of thought leadership and awards galore, and it was a PR bonanza.

In this episode of the Feed the Narrative podcast, David and Cam revisit their time together at Bellhop and what made that PR program so successful. Cam then discusses all the ways, from his vantage point in the VC world, public relations benefits founders and the startups they’re building.
